Mama Shots Workshops are curing families of bad photos, one mama at a time! And anyone else that wants to learn about this wonderful art! All amateurs are welcome but if you already know what a F-stop is, you might be a little bored. If you don’t even know how to turn your camera on yet, you’re in the right spot! Plus, all workshop students are encouraged to contact Mariah with any and all photog questions after they graduate – now there’s a bonus!! And, don’t forget to order your Workshop Workbook. It contains all of Mariah’s presentation slides and plenty of room for your own notes….it’s so valuable, you may just shrink it up and attach it to your camera (really, it’s been done!)
{1} Your Fancy Camera, Simplified
Want to know how to actually use that fancy camera? Mariah will teach you the ins and outs of your digital SLR (the ones where the lenses come off). You can finally figure out what all those little buttons do and why you’d ever want to touch one.
She’ll teach you how to:
- Get your image as bright or dark as you’d like
- Actually get an image with your kiddo in focus
- Blur the background
- Capture images in low light without your flash
- And much more!
{2} Star Light, Star Bright ~ how to use light
Subject and light are the two most important elements in an image. Learning how to see where the light is and use it to capture quality images will take your photography to a whole new level.
In this class, you’ll learn how to:
- Recognize the light that the camera is using
- Work with the light to help the quality of your image
- Pose your subject in different lighting situations
- Use the light to develop different moods in your image
- Plus more!
{3} Now What? Post processing tips & tricks
Now that you’ve got the beautiful image in your camera, how do you actually get it on the wall? In this class, Mariah takes you through Photoshop Elements so you can finally get your pictures printed. Bring your latptop so you can follow along as she goes over:
- Getting your images from your camera to your computer
- Organizing your image files
- Minor editing procedures (cropping, color correction, etc)
- Repairing little mistakes (getting rid of trash can in the background, scrape on the cheek, etc)
- Creating scrapbook style albums or slide shows with music
- Sharing your images online
- And more!
{4} The Art Part
So, you’ve got all the technical stuff down. Now, you want to add a little style to your images! This is the class for you! It’s Mariah’s favorite class to teach because it focuses on what she absolutely loves about photography…telling a story.
She’ll share with you her tips on how to:
- develop your “eye” so you can compose intriguing images
- tell a story with just one image
- connect with your subject so their personality shines through
- develop your own personal and unique photography style
- get over your embarrassment of showing your images..cause your gonna have to…a lot!
Tuesday Night Series
Tuesday Night Series’ are held four times per year and include all of the above courses taught on consecutive Tuesday Nights. You can take 1, 2 or 3 classes but to really get a strong foundation in photography, take all 4! Classes are limited in size and fill up quickly so keep an eye out for the “registration is open” notices. Workshops are held in downtown Sebastopol or Santa Rosa and usually go from 7 – 9ish.

At Home
At Home workshops are a great reason to gather your friends and learn a new craft! Host a workshop at your house and invite 5-10 friends. Mariah will create a custom 2 hr interactive photography workshop tailored to want you want to learn about photography. Typically, she covers how to use your camera and touches on basic lighting tricks and how to infuse a little art into your images. All students also receive a free copy of Mariah’s {at home} Workshop Workbook!

To Go
Want to provide a “thank you” to your employees? Hold an event to attract more customers? Mama Shots is completely portable and can be held at almost any office building or commercial location. The workshop will be tailored to the needs of your audience and is always interactive and fun! Presentations can be as short as a 1 hr. tips & tricks session or as in depth as a 3 hr. crash course on all things photo.

One on One
Individual attention to take your photography to the next level! Mariah will work with you on exactly what you want to learn. You can start at the basics or even have her along for one of your personal shoots. She’ll come with you and show you how she would photograph your subject in that environment and be there to answer all of your on the spot questions.
