Mama Shots Tuesday Night Series {winter 2012} is here…YAY!!!   The requests for these digital photography workshops have been coming in everyday since the holidays…I LOVE it!   I can’t wait to show you all what you can do with those fancy cameras!

The Tuesday Night Series starts on April Feb 21st and continues for the next 4 Tuesdays.  Classes are from 7-9ish at my studio in Downtown Sebastopol.  You can register for as many as you want but I highly recommend taking the whole series (and with a friend ;) . Being able to come back week after week really lets all that knowledge sink in and gives you time to figure out what you need to ask about in the next class!   The whole series is only $199.  To take them individually, your 1st class is $69 and each additional is $49.

Don’t forget to order your Workshop Workbook.  You’ll get all my presentation slides plus plenty of room for your notes.  Trust me, at only $25 this is a must have!  Contains probably the most valuable piece of paper ever!  Ok, maybe not the most valuable ever but just ask a Mama Shots student if they ever go shooting without the “chart”.

Mama Shots – Spring ’11 is Here!!


I am all set and ready to launch the new Mama Shots series for Spring…YAY!!!   The request for these classes has been overwhelming and I tried to accommodate as many schedules as possible. Tuesday Nights {winter 2011}


Mama Shots Tuesday Night’s are back!!  Perfect timing for all of you hoping for a shiny new camera this Christmas!  The series starts with “your fancy camera…simplified!” on January 18th at 7pm and continue for the next 3 Tuesdays.  Workshops are held in downtown Sebastopol and each last about 2 hours.  Learn a bunch one night, practice it all week, and come back with all your questions!  By far, the best way to soak up all this good info.

Mama Shots also offers gift certificates.  Feel free to send this link on over to your favorite gift giver as a not so subtle hint.  But, do it fast because these limited spots book up quickly.  Don’t forget to add the Workshop Workbook. Introducing…Mama Shots at Home!


Mama Shots are a hit!!  All the students are having a great time and learning a lot.  So, I’m adding some new options for those of you who have a hard time making the weekly class or are looking for a an overview of how to use your camera and take really cute pics of those kids.  Enter…Mama Shots, at home.

Here’s the deal:

You host a workshop at your home (don’t worry, I bring lots of stuff…you just provide a roof and a place to sit) for 5-10 of your friends…no more, no less.  I come and teach for a couple hours, covering basic camera functions, lighting tips, tricks to photographing kids and how to put a little art into your images.  Sound good?

Here’s even better news…it’s FREE for you (the Host) and only $50 for each of your friends.  Wait…there’s more…if 10 guests sign up, you have earned a complimentary portrait session with Mariah Smith Photography.  Yep, really…that’s a $300 value!  Cool, huh?

Opening Night!


The first night of Your Fancy Camera…Simplified was awesome!  A big thank you to all the mama’s that made this workshop so much fun!  Everyone left knowing how to use their camera on the manual setting and excited to buy new lenses :)   I can’t wait to see the images they bring back next week.  There are still 2 spots open for next week’s Star Light, Star Bright workshops.  Visit www.mamashotsworkshops.com to register.

Mama Shots Debuts!


This has been a “long time coming” project that I am so happy to finally debut!  Almost every time I go to a clients home for a portrait session, one of the parents (usually mom) has a brand new, gorgeous digital SLR that she has no idea how to use…but is really excited about.   I love that my clients are interested in taking their own images…I can’t be there all the time, right?  But, being that the camera is just a tool, no matter how high tech it is, you still need a knowledge of basic photography to really make those cameras work for you.  Putting it on auto all the time is just plain ol cheating…and, you won’t get the images you want, anyway.  The new digital SLR’s (from here on out…dslr’s) have so many great features that can really confuse the heck out of anyone.  And, learning from a manual is ridiculously boring.  So, enter my idea…workshops that teach you just what those fancy cameras can do and how to make them do it!  Yay!!

I’m starting by offering 4 different workshops.  Each one focuses on an important component of a great image…using the camera, using the light, processing the image, and adding artistic value.  You’re welcome to pick what interests you most or take them all to create really awesome images.  They’re offered on back to back Tuesday nights at 7pm.  I thought this time would work well for our busy lives and it also gives you the opportunity to work on what we covered the first Tuesday and then bring back questions and images the following Tuesday.  Opening night is July 13th…check out the website for more details.  I’m also thinking of adding a “Whole Shebang Saturday” for those of you who want it all and all in one day…I know you’re out there.  But, that won’t be for a little while.
