Mariah has always been fascinated by people and the little details that make them unique. She’s always wanted to hear their stories and learn who they are. When she was first able to capture one of those unique details in her camera and saw that image magically appear on a blank piece of paper, she was hooked. Within a week of that first unforgettable moment, she had a darkroom in her garage. Now, of course, the darkroom is in her computer but her love for capturing and telling the story of individuals and their relationships hasn’t changed.
The images she creates during an unscripted family portrait session are unmatched. Mariah has an innate ability to connect with her subject and produce images that are as genuine to the subject as they are beautiful. She brings this skill to her scripted & commercial work as well. If you ever take one of her workshops, she’ll talk to you about “falling a little bit in love with your subject”. Mariah studies each & every subject and always finds at least one thing that she loves…whether it’s the shape of the vase, the way the 3 yr old crosses her ankles when she sits or the contrast of the dark truffle on the creamy brie. When she finds what she loves, she focuses on that and uses her camera to share that beauty with you.
When photographing a wedding or birth, Mariah is an observer. She firmly believes that both of these events are perfect just the way they are…any monkeying on her part would ruin the authenticity of the images. She wants to tell your story, not showcase her posing style. All that being said, Mariah has been a bride and knows how long it takes to look that gorgeous. Since candids aren’t always flattering, she makes sure to pose you for a few, quick shots that showcase your beauty.
